| | Good morning. President Trump has taken the collar off DOGE and allowed it to sniff out the waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government (we love dog puns here at Upward News). Also, after much speculation that DNI nominee Tulsi Gabbard and HHS nominee RFK Jr. would falter, both of them appear to be on the road to confirmation. | Mentioned in this edition: Mike Johnson, Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Ross Vought, RFK Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, Scott Turner, Pam Bondi, Josh Hawley, Bernie Sanders, Elon Musk, Mike Rogers, John Fetterman JD Vance, Kash Patel, Susan Collins, Josh Hawley, Scott Bessent, Barack Obama, Tom Cotton, James Lankford, Kyrsten Sinema, Todd Young, and more. | | Have tips? | | ๐ WHAT WE'RE WATCHING | | ๐กย Tension is growing between House and Senate Republicans. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), along with other top House Republicans, met with President Donald Trump at the White House Thursday to find a path forward on reconciliation. The Senate is reportedly growing impatient with the House's slow reconciliation efforts and wants two reconciliation bills, whereas Johnson believes the House can only pass one. | ๐ฐย A judge extended the federal government's worker buyouts. The proposed federal buyout program โ giving certain workers paid leave until September in exchange for an agreement to resign โ was extended by a federal judge to Monday, though it was supported to end last night. DOGE Director Musk has threatened mass layoffs for those who do not accept the buyout. Other agencies, like the CIA, have also begun buyout programs of their own. | ๐ชย The Pentagon is preparing to leave Syria. President Trump sought to pull American forces out of Syria in his first term, but was rebuffed by top military officials. This time around, he is redoubling his efforts. The Defense Department reportedly began readying plans to completely remove all American troops from Syria within one, two, or three months. | โ
ย Russ Vought was confirmed as OMB Director. President Trump's first-term Director of the Office of Management and Budget was confirmed to the position a second time after a party-line Senate vote. Democrats delayed the vote as long as they could, with some senators speaking at 2 AM in order to push it back. Vought is committed to slashing federal spending. |
